The APP (Association of Pickleball Professionals) kicks of their 2023 tournament season at the PicklePlex in Punta Gorda, Florida with the APP SUNMED Punta Gorda Open. The 2023 APP Tour has 16 stops nationwide with events January through December.
Punta Gorda is quickly becoming a hot spot for pickleball enthusiasts. The town has shown its support for the nation's fastest growing sport by building a state-of-the-art facility called PicklePlex. The Association of Pickleball Professionals has shown their appreciation by including Punta Gorda in their nationwide tour for the third consecutive year.
Hurricane Ian hit hard but Punta Gorda is trying to recover quickly. Tarps are going up, neighbors are helping each other and PGI/BSI have power. Most residents have power at this point but for those that don’t and read this, I am sure that they are gritting their teeth and wondering why they don't.

The other day I noticed something strange in Hector House Plaza across from the courthouse. All of the palm trees wore leg warmers. Or at least that’s what this child of the 1980s discerned them to be. Boaters might call them Palm coozies. (All boaters love three things: boats, open water, and coozies.) I know boaters who have coozies for their box wine. Why not coozies for palm trees?
While much of the north saw record cold this Thanksgiving, we donned shorts for our local Turkey trot. Every year, this 5k draws hundreds of locals out to support Habitat for Humanity. For the Andreaes, it’s a tradition.
